Message from the President

“The best kept secret in Pittsburgh.” I have heard this statement made about the Crossroads Foundation continuously since the time that I became President of the Board of Directors back in 2002. I’d like to change that. I am excited that you are reading this message on our newly-renovated Web Site because the Crossroads story is one that will appeal to you on a personal level.

My wife, Mary, and I came to know Crossroads at the request of some very close friends who had been working tirelessly to assist young high school students in the inner-city attend Catholic high school and go on to higher education. We were drawn to this unique program because of our strong belief that education is the strongest weapon available to combat poverty and the resulting destructive social conditions. In addition, Crossroads provides the opportunity for a solid education in the context of a faith-based pursuit of individual morality and integrity. We were hooked!

For over 20 years now the Crossroads Foundation has provided student-specific learning programs for its young scholars, grades 9 through 12. The scholars receive a wide range of support including academic, psycho-social and financial, and the results have been dramatic! Crossroads is extremely proud of its outstanding track record, in that 98% of Crossroads seniors graduate from high school on time and in good standing and 95% of Crossroads graduates matriculate to higher education.

The true goodness of this work manifests itself in the maturity, self confidence and positive attitudes of each year’s graduating seniors and in the heartfelt thanks that come from their families and guardians. Many of these young men and women, who have overcome so much adversity, will return to Pittsburgh, enrich our social and moral fabric, and become this Region’s future leaders. And, I will be thrilled when one of our graduates is the author of “Message from the President” on this web site in the not too distant future.

We welcome your interest in Crossroads and hope you will join our team in some way to help more kids achieve their dreams. Just give us a call and let’s talk about how you can become involved and help this “best kept secret” become a well-known Pittsburgh success story.
