Crossroads at a Glance

Keys to Success

Founded in 1988 by an anonymous donor, the keys to Crossroads’ success are twofold: (1) the ability to place vulnerable adolescent scholars in disciplined and structured Catholic high schools with high academic standards, and: (2) the commitment of three full-time counselors who run our programs and provide direct services to our scholars and their families.

Crossroads Scholars

Crossroads scholars reside in economically distressed communities in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. The majority are African American and non-Catholic. Their families have mild to profound financial needs. Most are raised by single parents, grandparents, or guardians. Their demographic circumstances put Crossroads scholars at risk for academic failure and dropping out of high school. Crossroads provides intensive and holistic wrap-around support services to ameliorate these risks and ensure academic and personal success for our scholars.

Role of Parents

A critical component of the Crossroads experience is the active involvement of parents working in partnership with Crossroads counselors to provide the necessary personal support to their teenage children. These cooperative efforts are the cornerstone of our successful outcomes.

Financial Assistance

Crossroads high school tuition awards are determined by an evaluation of the family’s financial status. Based on this information, each family is required to make some financial commitment toward their child’s education so they remain invested in the process.

Community Service

Crossroads scholars commit an average of 80+ hours of volunteer service throughout their high school career to promote the virtues of integrity, responsibility, compassion, and civic commitment.
