Summer Numbers Show an Amazing Three Months of Impact!

New this year, the University of Pittsburgh's Camp BioE outright WOWed our rising sophomores with five packed days of hands-on activities exploring bio-engineering and regenerative medicine.  Other highlights through our collaborative program with Computer Reach include guest speakers from NASA, Harvard University, Uber, CMU’s Institute of Computer Science, and the PA Attorney General’s Office. Thanks to our inaugural sponsor EQT Foundation, we also kicked off our JOBS SQUARED programming (Jump-starting Opportunities Bridging Scholars with STEM) which exposes scholars to local job options in STEM-related fields.

The very wide breadth of career exposure also featured a day spent at WPXI, hosted by evening news anchor Lisa Sylvester, where scholars got an in-depth behind-the-scenes perspective on TV news production and filming, and the third year of our Corporate Sponsorship Program, which enabled internships for our top upperclassmen in law (Cipriani & Werner and Babst Calland), architecture (Hayes Design Group), commercial real estate (Newmark Knight Frank), accounting (Lally & Co.), and media (Pittsburgh Magazine).

Our staple residential college exposure program, St. Vincent College Week, provided such pertinent workshops as Getting Ready for College Success, Personal Integrity, Re-framing Conflict, Cyber Safety (and perhaps even more importantly) Cyber Stupidity. And through our summer tutoring program at the Calland Center, we also provided 200 hours of tutoring in SAT Prep, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, pre-calculus and summer reading assignments.

Look for the full annual report on our 2017-18 fiscal year in the coming months.

In the meantime, please join us in wishing luck to all of our 130 scholars starting off their school year, and thanks to all of you whose donations helped make our Summer of Amazing Impact possible!
